Artist's Statement

Born into a family of artists, I also developed a passion for the arts. And as far back as I can remember, I have always had an affinity for animals. As one might expect, they are the primary focus and inspiration for my paintings.

Although my previous work had merit, it was missing a deeper meaning and expression. Only when I studied the works of primitive people from other cultures, watched the untrained artist paint, draw and sculpt, did I discover myself as an artist. They taught me to paint from my heart, and to tell my story on canvas with an honest conviction. I don't consider myself a wildlife artist, and rather than focusing on rigid, technical precision, I instead place my focus on the true essence of my subjects' emotions and spirit, and try to capture those feelings on canvas.

Some of my paintings have simple, very obvious messages about life, and the animals that we share the earth with. Sometimes they are lighthearted and whimsical, while others are more serious. Other messages in my paintings are not so obvious, nor so simple.

Most importantly I hope to convey messages about the urgency of our Earth's call to us. And how incredibly fragile she is.
